HOW TO SETUP THE TRAFFIC REDIRECT FROM HTTP TO HTTPS

It is important to let your visitors know you are secure and that their information will be protected, Hello folks thank you for joining my course.

In this lesson, we are going to learn how to check and set up the right redirection from an unsecured website address to https without losing your link juice traffic.

If your visitor lands on an http or www. addresses and not getting redirected to https(secure path) is considered as direct traffic and is not good for SEO.

So to check the website redirection we're going to do some tests and run the site using different browsing possibilities as:

1.www

2.http://

3.http://www

4.example.com

Those four possibilities must lead to an https.

THE CORRECT REDIRECT MAP

www.>301>https

http://>301>https

http://www.>301>https

https://>200>https

After the redirection test if all these paths point to an HTTPS your site has no issue, otherwise if you got an error message “your connection is not secure” ”NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID” and you already installed an SSL certificate in this case it might be a mismatched domain name inside the SSL certificate registrar.

To make sure if this is the main cause, click on that “not secure” red tag at the top left of your browser >in the SSL section verify if your website matches with the website name in the SSL certificate registrar.

If your website name is mismatched it can cause the issue and your only resort is to reinstalling it once again.

Now let's set up the redirect

1.step Open up your WordPress site, go to your dashboard> visit your General Settings> update your WordPress and site URL addresses to HTTPS.

2.step set up your redirects in your .htaccess file

Open up your website hosting provider>go to CPANEL>click on file manager>look for .htaccess>right click edit file>in the bottom of the file past the code>then click save >and done

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>

RewriteEngine On

RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off

RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}

[L,R=301]

</IfModule>
