how to identify 404 not found pages and fix

Links that don’t lead anywhere are known as 'dead links' or 'broken links'..Hello folks thank you for joining my course. In this lesson we’re going to learn how to identify 404 not found pages from any website And how to fix them.

So to identify the broken pages were going to run a free crawling program called screaming frog with many useful functionalities.

Screaming frog is able to scan the whole website and gives an insight into incorrect meta tags headings, broken pages and much more and the good news is totally free you can scan up to 500 URLs.

HOW TO USE SCREAMING FROG TO IDENTIFY BROKEN PAGES

After you open up the program ,enter the website that you would like to scan and click on start ,screaming frog will crawl and scan the whole site pages.

after it finish next click on response codes tab then click on the small arrow to list the dropdown menu and click on filter the table next scroll down click on client error 400 , this is how we identify the broken pages using a screaming frog.

Every broken page has a path where it came from and most of the time those pages are hyperlinked by the anchor tags by using the program screaming frog we've got a full insight that helps us to find these anchor tags.

with The inlinks feature you will know which type of broken link is and where it came from,And where is pointing, also the anchor text type and link position.

After you found and localized the anchor text Now you can easily start to FIX the broken page by changing the redirection path to another suited web page.

FOR EXAMPLE:

<a href="example.com/path(404)">keyword</a> redirected to 404 page not found

ps: The broken page should be deleted and unindexed from the search engine
